On 8 January 2013 the Silk Road project kicked off. This is a 90% European Commission funded project with a total budget of € 802.243,64. The project will last 24 months [08.01.2013 to 08.01.2015].
The project is a collaboration with partners from four different countries: Greece, Armenia, Georgia and Turkey. The route will be 3000 kilometers long, stretching from the Armenian border with Iran, into Georgia, along the coast of north Turkey and into Greece.
In Greece, the project will develop a tourist trail in Central Macedonia and Eastern Macedonia-Thrace, which will connect 15 heritage sites and historic monuments, all located along the historic Silk Road. The Greek partner, the European Regional Cooperation Framework [ERFC], , has been ask to:
- physically lay out the trail with panels, sign post and plaques and;
- to assist in the development of a multimedia ‘virtual’ tourist trail which will be presented on a web portal and which can then be seen on smart phone, thus creating a network and advertising platform or local service tourist and cultural organisation in multimedia/online format.
We would like from a Chinese partner to consider:
- we would like information and cooperation from China to Armenia about the silk road;so that the silk road from Greece to China is unified;
- explore possible tourist interaction between Greece and China with the specific goal of making use of the tourist infrastructure prepared for by this project;
- develop a silk road tourist brand in China to encourage tourists from Europe to visit China; in other words a bilateral exchange.
The project was presented to the Greek Ministry of Culture on 18 September 2013 and gave its approval and decided to cooperate with the project.
